IT leader · Programmer · Thinker
I work as an IT leader, but I think like a programmer. What interests me is how we think about what we do. It rarely shows in the code directly, but sooner or later it always shows in the system.
I have been working with software for more than thirty years. I stayed in the field because I came to see that good software always has good thinking behind it, and the two can't be separated. That still interests me as much as it did at the start.
I have worked as a programmer and led teams and companies, at startups, at multinationals and in public administration. I learned the most from my own mistakes, but at other organizations I also saw what works and what doesn't. Part of what I write about is direct experience; the rest I took from books, talks and years of arguing about the craft.
I rarely write, because I only write down what I have already thought through. Whatever appears here, I argued with myself about it for a long time first.
The articles are my own opinions about how I see the profession and what makes a developer, a product or an organization good. I am no oracle, and I am surely wrong in places. I am confident about the core of them, though. You don't have to agree with me for them to be worth thinking through.
There won't be news, daily content or clickbait here. A new piece appears when a thought has become clear enough for me to put into words.
If you have a question, an opinion or a counterargument about any of the articles, feel free to reach out. The conversation is often at least as interesting as the writing itself.
